Last week I applied to be apart of the Santa Barbara Art Association. I was one of about 50 applicants. Every six months, about half of the submissions are accepted by a three person panel consisting of a teacher, artist, and current member. Work is subjectively judged on creativity, technique, and presentation. Submissions are supposed to include three pieces in a similar format with a related theme... If selected, you become a SBAA member and get to have your art shown in a circuit of galleries throughout the year. This was my application in September 2014. I did not get accepted but was encouraged to try again next time. I'm humbled and reminded of the vast subjectivity which comes with art. I'm still proud of what I created and still have the works to show somewhere else! I'm glad I at least tried to get in, otherwise I might have doubt if I never tried!
